Industry experience impacts how a website gets built
Every industry has unique needs, compliance requirements, and user expectations. I’ve spent over 20 years working with professional service businesses, local government, creative professionals, and mission-driven organizations. I know how to design and build websites that fit your sector and make it easier for your audience to get what they need.
My professional experience is also informed by my training as a fine artist. Attention to detail, an ability to communicate abstract concepts across diverse audiences, and a deep interest in craft inform every decision I make: how content gets structured, what SEO approach gives you an edge, where conversion friction happens, and what training a team needs to maintain a site after launch.

Why WordPress?
WordPress runs 43% of all websites on the internet. I’ve developed custom WordPress powered websites since 2009, with only one client switching to another platform in all that time.
Ownership and control
You can leave, change hosts, hire someone else, without losing anything.
Update content yourself
You won’t break the internet, promise. And you don’t need to call a developer for every small change, or pay a monthly fee just to swap out a phone number.
Your website grows with you
New services, new staff, new locations – easy to add to your website without rebuilding from scratch.
You are not locked in
WordPress is not a proprietary platform or a monthly subscription to a system that holds your content hostage. WordPress is open source and its free to use. You can also migrate content to and from other platforms.
WordPress is stable and widely supported
If something breaks, there are people who can fix it. You are not dependent on one developer knowing one obscure system.
WordPress gives you ownership, flexibility, and independence. You can update it yourself, grow into it over time, and work with any developer you choose — including someone other than me.
WordPress has some haters…
You may have heard some negative press about the most popular CMS on the internet:
WordPress powers the White House, NASA, and Microsoft websites. Security problems come from cheap hosting and zero maintenance, not WordPress.
You can’t escape security issues on any platform but I would posit that because WordPress is open source, it benefits from millions of developers actively finding and fixing vulnerabilities, rather than a single company’s internal team working behind closed doors.
There is a learning curve but WordPress is very intuitive. Staff learn to update pages in about 30 minutes. I provide training and written guides so nobody’s stuck Googling at 11pm.
They can, on poorly built sites. I use staging environments so updates get tested before they are enabled on your live site. When you skip regular version updates is where you start to encounter breakage – it’s much easier to update to a minor version than jump from 5.9 to 7.0.
I want you to enjoy using your website.
Every site I build is customized for your industry and the capacity of your team. You see what you need and nothing you don’t plus you get hands-on training and complimentary support for 30-days post launch.

Website FAQs
I don’t have a website at all. Where do we start?
With a short conversation. You tell me what you do, where you work, and what questions you get most often — I’ll outline a simple site structure and send a clear proposal.
I build clean, mobile-first WordPress sites organized around your services, service area, and how people get in touch. The editing tools are straightforward enough that you can update a phone number, add a photo, or change your hours without calling anyone. Nothing proprietary, nothing that locks you in.
Request a complimentary call with me and we can review your current site and needs.I’ll provide a clear proposal and timeline after our initial consultation.
What platform should I build my website on?
It depends on what you need long-term. The most important questions are: who owns the content, can you take it with you if you leave, and can someone other than your original developer maintain it? Those answers should drive the decision more than features or price.
Is WordPress better than Squarespace or Wix?
For simple sites with modest needs, template builders work fine. Where they fall short is ownership and flexibility. Your content lives on their platform, and if they change pricing, features, or shut down, you have limited options. WordPress gives you full ownership and portability from day one.
What’s the real cost difference between platforms?
Template builders look cheaper upfront but costs compound over time: monthly fees, feature upgrades, and the eventual cost of migrating off when you outgrow them. A well-built WordPress site costs more initially and less over time.
What does “open source” mean for my website?
It means no single company controls the platform. WordPress is maintained by millions of developers worldwide, which means vulnerabilities get patched quickly and you’re never dependent on one vendor staying in business.
Can I switch developers if I need to?
With WordPress, yes — your site, content, and data are yours. With proprietary platforms, that’s often not the case.
How much does a WordPress website cost?
It depends on scope, but a custom WordPress site typically runs between $3,000 and $8,000 for a small to mid-sized business. That includes design, development, content strategy, and basic SEO setup. Ongoing maintenance starts at $49 per month.
Is it cheaper to build it myself?
Many tools are free or low-cost, so upfront cost may appear less. But, as anyone who has taken on a home improvement project knows, the real cost is your time. Learning WordPress, writing your own content, troubleshooting plugin conflicts, and figuring out SEO from scratch can easily consume 80–120 hours for a first-time site. A conversation is the best place to start and if a simple DIY solution will work for you, I’ll be straightforward and tell you that.
How long does it take to build a custom WordPress site?
Most projects take 8–12 weeks from kickoff to launch. The biggest variable is usually content: copy, photos, and decisions about what goes where. Projects move faster when clients come prepared but this is a big part of our beginning discovery work, to ensure that the design and build is as smooth and planned for as possible.
What’s the difference between a template and a custom site?
A template gets you online quickly and cheaply. A custom site is built around your specific audience, services, and goals — with structure and content strategy baked in rather than retrofitted. Templates often cost less to start and more to fix later.
What slows a project down?
Content, almost always. Design and development move quickly once there’s a clear direction. Waiting on copy, photos, or internal approvals is where most timelines stretch. If this does happen in our project, I am our proactive guide keeping us on course and prioritizing our tasks.
