Websites for Creative Professionals

WordPress portfolio websites for photographers, designers, artists, and architects.

Fast, visually polished, and built with a clear path from “I love this work” to “how do I hire you?”

Most portfolio sites are passive. They’re built to showcase, not to convert.

Whether you are an architect or a photographer, your portfolio site is still a business tool, and it should act like it. Make your best work immediately visible, give serious clients the context they need to feel confident reaching out, and remove every possible obstacle between “I want to work with this person” and an inquiry in your inbox.

Two creative put the pieces together

What I do for creative professionals

My background is in fine art and I have first-hand experience developing portfolio and creative websites that connect with their intended audiences. I also have extensive nonprofit and commercial art experience – I ran a gallery in Chicago for 4 years and was the executive director of a successful neighborhood arts organization. Both of those positions relied on organization and communication skills to market, fund, and develop programming.

Optimized performance for portfolio websites

Visual quality and fast load times require intentional technical choices. I optimize images for web without visible quality loss, and I’ll show you how to do the same. The result is a site that renders your work beautifully and loads quickly, even on a phone.

Custom WordPress design and development

Your portfolio site shouldn’t look like a theme someone else picked. I design custom WordPress sites to complement your creative work. Layouts are designed around your specific work type: editorial photography reads differently than architectural visualization, and a branding studio needs different framing than a fine arts practice.

Accessibility conformance

Creative sites are often the worst performers on accessibility: image-heavy, low-contrast text on moody backgrounds, missing alt text. I build with accessibility in mind from the start: proper alt text for portfolio images, keyboard-navigable galleries, and sufficient contrast that doesn’t fight your visual aesthetic. And everything works on a phone, which is where a significant portion of your potential clients will see it first.

What it’s like to work with me

Based in Chautauqua County, NY, I work with photographers, visual artists, architects, graphic designers, illustrators, and small creative studios throughout the United States. I have a background in fine arts and have run a gallery practice alongside this work — I understand both the creative side and the business side of presenting your work online.

Strategies that fit your reality

Creative professionals are usually juggling client work and their own practice simultaneously. I run a focused, well-paced process that doesn’t require you to drop everything — structured reviews, clear decisions, and a project timeline that accounts for the reality of a working creative schedule. The goal is a site you’re proud to send to clients and capable of maintaining yourself.

Responsive communication

You work directly with me throughout the project. I explain technical decisions clearly and document what we’ve agreed on. Visual decisions get real examples, not abstract descriptions.

Decisions backed by data

If your current site has analytics, I’ll use them to understand how visitors are actually moving through your portfolio — what they’re looking at, where they’re dropping off, and what that suggests about structure. After launch, I’ll show you what to watch so you can tell whether the new site is doing its job.

FAQs about your creative or fine art website

How long does it take to build a custom WordPress website?

Custom WordPress websites can take 4-6 weeks or 6-8 months. This process may include discovery, design, development, content creation, and (always) thorough device testing.

Request a complimentary call with me and we can review your current site and better understand your needs. I’ll provide a clear proposal and timeline after our initial consultation.

Will I lose my current Google rankings if we redesign?

A well-managed migration protects your existing visibility. We’ll keep URLs consistent where possible, redirect anything that changes, and monitor Search Console through the transition. Most sites maintain or improve their rankings with better structure and clearer content.

I make sure that your website is optimized for local search by including Google Business profile integration, researching local keywords for services, and developing location-specific content. This work helps you rank in local organic search when potential clients are looking for accounting services in your area.

We can also review other tools in the SEO tool-belt to help you achieve your search goals, including AI overviews and how social platforms factor into the bigger brand picture.

Is the website optimized for search engines?

Every website I build includes foundational SEO including optimized page titles, meta descriptions, local business schema, and mobile-friendly design.

We also optimize content for AI search tools like ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google’s AI overviews, ensuring potential clients can find you whether they’re using traditional search engines or AI-powered search tools when looking for accounting services in your area.

You don’t need to become an SEO expert — I’ll help you understand what we’re doing and why.

Can I update the website content myself?

Absolutely. I always want to empower my clients to own and update their content. Custom websites are built on WordPress with user-friendly editing tools. I provide training and documentation so you can easily update pages, and publish content without calling me every time.

After launch, I’ll document how to add new projects, swap out images, update your own content. Documentation covers image sizing, file naming, and the specific steps for your setup.

Do you provide website hosting or do I need my own?

I can work with select existing hosting providers or recommend managed WordPress hosts that specialize in professional service websites. I’ll guide you through the technical requirements and help ensure your hosting meets security and performance standards.

“You get what you pay for,” is the general rule of thumb here and cheap hosting is cheap hosting.

Domain and email are independent of the website. If we need to transfer services, I’ll manage the domain transition carefully to avoid any downtime, and your email setup usually won’t be affected.

Do you handle ongoing maintenance and updates?

Websites require consistent maintenance to stay secure, functional, and compliant. I offer website maintenance plans after 30-days of complimentary support which include: regular security updates, performance monitoring, backup management, and accessibility audits.

I also provide priority support for urgent issues and help with content updates when your team needs assistance.

How much content do I need to write myself – do I need to write a lot of blog posts?

That depends on your business goals and what your content needs are.

A focused set of pages and FAQ content will do more for your search visibility than a dozen generic blog articles. If you do want to write blog posts, I can help you with content guidelines and manageable SEO strategies. We can also talk about other options like video blogs if you aren’t a writer.

For page content, some clients provide rough notes and I handle the writing. Others write their own copy and I edit for clarity and structure. We’ll figure out what works for you before we start.

Do you offer ongoing help after launch?

Yes! Monthly or annual site maintenance subscriptions are offered. Additional support is available for updates, small improvements, and questions. No long-term contracts required.

Can you help me update my branding or photos, or do I need those in place first?

You don’t need a full brand overhaul to start. I can work with your existing colors, fonts, and photos, and we can refine from there. If your photos are genuinely holding the site back, I’ll say so and can point you toward what would help most but I won’t push you into a bigger project than you need.

Will my high-resolution images still look great when optimized?

Yes. Modern image optimization — proper format selection, responsive sizing, compression — reduces file sizes dramatically without visible quality loss on screen. In most cases, optimized images look identical to the originals while loading significantly faster. I’ll show you the comparison before and after so you can see for yourself.

What if I want to add eCommerce, print sales, or booking later?

WordPress handles scope changes and scaling well. If there’s a clear direction you’re heading — print sales, licensing, booking consults — we’ll plan for that so adding it later will be about scaling (not rebuilding).
