Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

Search Engine Optimization doesn’t have to be mysterious or expensive. Help your audience find you online and make those clicks count.

Find-ability and trust: the small business SEO and AI-EO challenge

Building search visibility has always been about trust (and sometimes paying money to Google). Trust is even more crucial today because search behavior is changing rapidly. Keywords alone don’t cut it. Your business needs to have a presence that AI can understand and recommend.

When search is competitive it can feel like you’ll never crack the top 10. The good news is, you don’t need to outrank national brands. You just need to show up when your customers search for your services in your area. Traditional SEO methods are still 100% valid but in addition to keyword research and good page and site structure, we need to adapt to a behavior shift in how people search and transact business online today. In 2026. Not 2012.

Integrated SEO services for small businesses and organizations

Search Engine Optimization isn’t something you bolt onto a website after it’s built. It’s part of your content strategy, baked into the site structure, and critical to your content.

My experience includes three years as lead designer at an established SEO-focused agency in Chicago before starting my own web design business. Now based in Jamestown, NY, I work with small businesses in Chautauqua County, across Western NY, and nationwide.

Helping local customers find you with location-specific content that builds local authority, Google Business Profile optimization, local keyword integration (city, county, region), and NAP consistency (name, address, phone) across listings.

Content built around your customers real search behavior for with a strategy based on search intent – not just keywords, good internal linking strategy, crafted page titles and meta descriptions to convert those impressions into clicks.

Technical optimization that helps search engines and AI understand your site. This includes: semantic code, mobile-first design, accessible content, the structured data that robots love, plus fixing crawl errors, broken links, and other performance issues.

Why WordPress? It’s primed for search.

WordPress is built with SEO in mind. Clean code, flexible structure, and control over every element mean you’re not fighting your platform to optimize your site.

Search now includes AI-SEO (Google’s AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Perplexity, etc) and it’s changing how people find businesses. When people get their answers from an AI overview, they don’t always click through to your page.

But AI search shares the same foundation as traditional SEO – rewarding unique and useful content and seeking evidence of a strong local presence. For small businesses, that means structured data and a clear demonstration of Experience, Expertise, Authority, and Trust (E-E-A-T) matter more than ever. These are the signals that help AI systems recognize and surface credible, relevant businesses.

Frequent questions about SEO

Can you guarantee first-page rankings?

No one can guarantee search result rankings. SEO is about improving visibility over time through quality content and technical optimization—not gaming the system.

How long does SEO take to show results?

Typically 3-6 months for new content to gain traction. Technical fixes can improve performance faster, but organic rankings take time to build.

New sites take time for Google to index and rank. Existing sites with updates see faster results. I help you to define clear goals, provide a researched keyword strategy, and offer content development support that helps you rank for the terms and words your customers are searching for. And, I’ll clean up any technical issues that might prevent you from being found online.

Do I need ongoing SEO work after my site launches?

It depends. If your industry is competitive or if Google’s algorithms change, ongoing updates help. But a well-optimized site can perform well without constant intervention. I’d recommend that we check-in 2-3 months after a project to review where you are and make any adjustments to our ongoing strategy.

What’s the difference between your SEO services and an SEO agency?

I integrate SEO into web design and content work, it’s not my only service. SEO agencies focus exclusively on optimization, advertising, and content marketing. I do not provide link-building, content marketing campaigns, social media services, or PPC services.

What is a site audit and do I need one?

A site audit is a review of your current SEO performance — technical issues, content gaps, keyword opportunities, and how your site compares to competitors. If you have an existing site and aren’t sure why it’s not performing, an audit is usually the right starting point.

What’s the difference between local SEO and general SEO?

Local SEO focuses on showing up when customers search for your services in a specific area; your city, region, or neighborhood. It involves your Google Business Profile, local keyword targeting, and building signals that tell search engines where you operate and who you serve. For most small businesses, local SEO is where the biggest gains are.

Do I need SEO if I’m already getting referrals?

Referrals are great, but they’re not scalable and you can’t control them. SEO builds a channel that works for you around the clock so when someone searches for what you offer and doesn’t already know your name, you still have a chance to show up.
